Drag a piece from your hand onto the range to place stock. The goal is one sentence:
fill the whole range. When two herds of different colours end up
touching, they fight — the bigger herd drives the smaller one off the range and
loses just as many head doing it. So a fight always costs you, and where you place is
the whole decision. 108 ranges, each a different shape.
Why did I lose animals I didn't want to lose?
That's the fight rule doing its job. Any two touching herds of different colours
resolve immediately, and both come away smaller. Filling the range cheaply
means placing so that herds join rather than collide. Because every fight resolves,
a completely full range can only ever be one colour — that's why filling it is
the only win condition.
Can I get stuck?
No. A range never runs out of moves — if your hand can't be placed, you're
dealt a fresh one automatically. Take as long as you like; there is no timer and no
move limit.
What are the stars for?
Stars rate how cheaply you filled the range, measured in the same currency
the game runs on: total spend. Three stars means you fought very little. The trophy
icon on Home opens Records, which tracks ranges filled and stars earned.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Herd is fully playable without an internet connection. Your progress is saved
on your device.
How do I turn off sound or vibration?
Tap the gear icon to open Settings, where you can toggle Sound Effects
and Haptics. Settings also holds How to Play, which
restates the rule at any time.
How do I reset my progress?
Deleting and reinstalling the app gives you a clean slate. There is no in-app reset
— if you'd like one, tell us at the address above.
Are there ads or in-app purchases?
No. Herd has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscriptions.
Is the game suitable for kids?
Yes — it's a calm, non-violent placement puzzle with no chat, no social
features, and no purchases. Herds that meet are resolved as a count, not a depiction.

Herd collects only anonymous gameplay analytics (via Google Firebase) to help us
improve the game — no accounts, no ads, no personal information. Read our
